Studying the evolution of astrophysical black holes and their relativistic jets: from collapsing massive stars to active galaxies

Pursuant to § 3 section 11 and § 7 sections 1 and 3 of Resolution No. 5/I/2020 of the Senate of the Jagiellonian University of 29 January 2020 on: the rules of recruitment for the Doctoral School of the Sciences and Life Sciences at the Jagiellonian University in the academic year 2020/2021, the Director of the Doctoral School of the Sciences and Life Sciences announces a competition as part of the Physics study programme for one doctoral student with a scholarship financed from the research project funds.

As part of the PRELUDIUM BIS 1 project “Studying the evolution of astrophysical black holes and their relativistic jets: from collapsing massive stars to active galaxies” a commission established at the School will conduct recruitment for the ASTRONOMY teaching programme in the academic year 2020/21. After interviews and evaluation of the candidates, the chairperson of the commission will present the director with a report containing a list of candidates recommended for admission to the school as part of the research project.

The schedule of the current competition is as follows:

  1. Opening of the competition: 11.09 2020
  2. Application submission deadline: 25.09.2020
  3. Entrance exams: 28.09.2020
  4. Announcement of results: 28.09.2020
  5. Enrolment: 30.09.2020

Application documents:

  1. a reference letter written by a senior research employed at a Polish or foreign university (no more than 2 pages, A4 format);
  2. curriculum vitae (no more than 2 pages, A4 format) with a special emphasis on academic achievements;
  3. documents confirming academic achievements outlined in the curriculum vitae;
  4. transcript of grades: diploma supplement, or the official transcript of grades, or, if they do not yet have these documents, grade book or another document listing completed courses and grades. Information about grading scale must be included;
  5. master thesis, or, if it is not completed, extended outline of the thesis.
  6. motivation letter explaining why the candidate is interested in the implementation pf the project (potential candidates should contact the PI for the project description)

Documents required for enrolment (successful applicant only):

  1. photocopy and the original for inspection: (i) a diploma certifying the award of MSc degree in Physics or Astronomy, or (ii) a document confirming completion of studies abroad, giving the right to take up studies in the country of its issue in order to obtain PhD or recognised as equivalent to the relevant Polish diploma confirming graduate qualifications;
  2. a 35 mm × 45 mm photograph without a headgear on a light background;
  3. for inspection: identity card (passport in case of foreigners);
  4. the originals of all other documents provided at the application stage in the form of a scan.

 

If the candidate has not yet been issued the paper copy of the diploma by the day of the enrolment, they may substitute this document with a certificate of graduation. In such case candidate must oblige themselves to submit the document of the diploma to the School by the date set by the School.

Higher education diplomas obtained abroad should:

  1. bear the apostille clause if the issuing country is covered by the Convention abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents, done at The Hague on 5 October 1961. (Journal of Laws of 2005 No. 112, item 938) or
  2. be legalised, in other cases.

Each document issued in a language other than Polish or English shall be accompanied by a certified translation into Polish or English.
